Prior to arriving at the airport
- Do not forget to inquire whether there
is a direct flight to your destination when purchasing a
domestic flight ticket. You may lose time for instance,
at Esenboga Airport in Ankara connecting flights when there
is a direct flight.
- Keep in mind that the consulates
of certain countries may cause unimaginable difficulties
in issuing a visa in Turkey. Prefer the consulates that
provide convenience when issuing a European Visa. You do
not have to travel to the country of the consulate that
has issued a Schengen visa.
- Do not forget to make reservations in accordance
with the aircraft type when determining the flight date
and time. Prefer comfortable airplanes with broad body,
if available.
- In preferring selecting the airlines that
you shall fly with, select those with an extensive airplane
fleet. Thus, an alternative airplane may be provided as
soon as possible in the event of any defects or delays occurring
on your airplane.
- Some airlines are providing certain advantages
in international flights. If you shall keep track of these,
you may be able to order the food that you prefer or select
your seat number when purchasing your ticket.
- Do not forget to postpone your ticket by
informing at a minimum of 24 hours in advance if you shall
attend the flight. Otherwise, you shall be subject to payment
of thirty percent the ticket fee in cancellations made less
than 6 hours in advance. You shall loose all rights related
with the ticket if you shall fail to inform the situation.
- Be at the airplane at minimum 30
minutes in advance for domestic flights and minimum one
hour in advance for the international flights. However,
due to airline companies selling tickets in advance with
the consideration of no-show passengers in the recent periods
in domestic flights, do not rely on these periods and wait
for the departure of your airplane at the airport.
WHEN COMING TO THE AIRPORT
- Do not forget to
take the traffic into consideration when coming to the airport.
Keep the time option determined in your mind for arrival
at the airport broad. For instance, keep in mind that certain
roads encircling the airport may be closed to traffic in
the event of arrival of the senior officials.
- If your flight is from big cities and you
plan to arrive at the airport with your own vehicle, take
into consideration that the car parks at the airports are
the most expensive car parks of the city.
- Do not forget to take bring your ticket
and passport. Be careful with the consideration that there
are numerous items that you cannot bring into the airport
or the airplane on you or in your bag.
- There is a weight restriction on
the belongings that can be taken along. Your luggage must
be prepared accordingly. Do not forget that excessive luggage
fee is not low at all.
AT THE AIRPORT
- Have your check in
process completed as soon as you arrive at the airport.
Since the officials shall start placement of the passengers
from the front section backwards in the event of the airplane
being full, you may find yourself at the most rear section
which is considered the most undesired section of the airplane,
if you have not reserved your place in advance.
- If you shall travel in airplanes with large
body and double corridor and you do not have an intention
of watching the view from the window, prefer the aisle side
of the middle row and the most front sections or the in
the row with the emergency exits to the possible extent.
The seat distances of this section are wider in comparison
to other rows in most airplanes.
- Having your name and address written on
your luggage shall be of assistance in the event of your
items being lost. Do not leave valuable items in your luggage.
Moreover select robust luggage because your luggage may
be placed under numerous trunks.
- Have your passport control completed as
soon as possible for international flights.
· In the event of a delay in your flight, do not
trust that the period informed is absolutely correct. Said
period may be extended or shortened. For this reason keep
your flight under control without entering the confined
area.
- Do not accept any items for delivery to
your destination from any one during your stay at the airport.
Keep in mind that this may lead to incidents ranging from
explosions to hijacking.
- Always keep your luggage with you and make
sure that you take your luggage with you even to the WC,
or to leave them with a person you know. Because unattended
luggage are being seized and terminated by the police.
- If you are traveling abroad with an item
which is subject to customs when returning to the country,
do not forget to have these items recorded in your passport.
Otherwise you may be faced with difficulty at the customs
on your return.
- Do not take the announcement made for your
flight too seriously, do not forget that excuses such as
"you did not announce" or "I did not hear
it" are not applicable.
- If your hand baggage is bulky, try
to be among the first boarding the airplane because you
may face difficulties in full airplanes.
ABOARD THE AIRPLANE
- Make sure your cellular
is switched off prior to boarding the airplane. Moreover,
be informed on the prohibitions imposed on electronic devices,
of which handling and usage are prohibited aboard the airplane,
and comply with these for your own safety.
- Reading something when the airplane accelerates
for the take off and when the wheels first take off from
the land may cause nausea. To avoid this look at the most
remote point on the airplane or look outside from the window.
Fasten your safety belt at the time of departure. Subsequently,
just loosen your safety belt after the safety belt warning
lights are switched off.
- Do not take your shoes off during the flight;
this shall disturb the people around you and cause a swelling
in your feet due to change in the pressure.
- Arrange the time to go to the WC in accordance
with the service of the cabin personnel. Otherwise you may
have to wait until the cabin personnel complete the service
up to your seat on your way back from the WC.
- You can see whether the WC is vacant or
not with a small light indicator from your seat in most
airplanes. In airplane types without said light, the red
or green indicator shall provide information on whether
any one is inside or not.
- Do not forget to make small exercises in
long flights. Said movements shall prevent disturbance by
means of increasing the blood circulation.
- You may ask for a pillow or a blanket from
the cabin personnel for sleeping.
- Keep in mind that the airway travel is
the most reliable mode of transportation. Moreover, the
moaning noise you shall hear short period prior to the descent
of the airplane is the noise of engines opening the landing
gear flaps. The following slight shaking and noise is caused
by opening and locking of the landing gear.
- Applauding the pilot when the wheels make
first contact with the ground is an action witnessed only
in Turkey. This can be perceived as a gratitude for the
fine landing by the pilot or a sign of thanking the journey
is over.
- Do not stand up until the airplane comes
to a complete stop. You cannot gain time by haste; even
if your airplane is at the bellows since you shall be receiving
your luggage with everyone else and since the other passengers
shall be awaited in the event of the airplane being parked
in the clearing.
- Filling of a form is required in
certain international flights for the destination country.
Said forms shall be handed over by the cabin personnel during
the flight and filling of said forms, if any, during the
flight shall be easier.
